Scarlett is spending a year as an intern with our church. Here’s her February update, with a parable and psalm exploring what God is teaching her about rooting out deep pride from within, and trusting Him to provide all her needs. Enjoy!
The Parable of the Planning Intern
A young intern held pride at her roots. She was slow in learning the ways of God. For a long time she followed her own path and let worldly expectations affect her choices. This was unbeknown to her but created rot at her core. Pride manifested itself in planning. She did not trust God to provide her daily bread. Hours were spent thinking of what she would eat or wear, how she would spend her time and whom with. One day a teacher said "Do not strive for your achievement; a clear mind comes from accepting wisdom outside yourself." Blessings are given from the Lord God Almighty to those who trust in Him. He is the only one able to carry the weight of your worries away with His unconditional love. Have faith that you are fully known and freedom will be added to each day of your life.
Psalm of Perfectionism
Am I right or wrong?
To know is unknown to me.
But I must know, to be perfect.
Perfection is from the Lord Almighty!
"The Rock, His work is perfect, for all His ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is He."
How I seek to know,
The knowledge others have
And I am yet to know.
Comparison steals my joy, Oh God!
"All the toil of man is for his mouth, yet his appetite is not satisfied."
I am barren
Like woman with empty womb.
Trapped in the curse of imperfection.
Will I be left
A prisoner to my own pride?
"Thus says the Lord: Even so will I spoil the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem."
I cry to you,
My prayer not ceasing.
Your ways are perfect
And Your plans are good.
I trust You will free me
From affliction.
"I call upon you for You will answer me, O God; incline Your ear to me; hear my words."
