We recently commissioned Scarlett Payne as our new FP intern for the year 2018/19, and we’re really excited to watch her continue to grow and to see what God does through her in the coming months.
Below, she has written a brief report of what she will be getting up to in the year ahead. Please keep her in your prayers over the coming months, as she gives up her time to serve us as a church, as well as our local community.
Hi Emmanuel,
I'm Scarlett, a recent Geography graduate here in Durham, and I'll be serving our church this academic year as a Frontiers Project (Impact) Intern.
What this involves is me dedicating the next 10 months or so to God's purposes for me, both in and outside of church, and growing in my knowledge of who He created me to be through nurturing my relationship with Him.
I'll attend several theological training sessions in Bedford throughout the year, read ample Christian books, and learn from several leaders at Emmanuel about the character of God.
My main involvement at church will be in children's work (Ignite Juniors) for ages 7 to 11 on Sunday mornings and Friday evenings. I will also help with monthly Open The Book assemblies in local primary schools, among many other opportunities I've been blessed with!
God has given me a passionate heart for stewardship of His creation and so I'll be volunteering with the food waste charity REfUSE, serving in their Pay As You Feel Cafe in Chester-le-Street.
I'll also be joining Emmanuel Students and 20s in a weekly Street Mission in Durham Market Square, and one of the Gilesgate EmmComms, giving me opportunity to pray for and serve the local community I'm living in.
That's everything in a nutshell, but please grab me for a chat any time over the next few months as I would love to get to know you more and exchange testimonies of God's love and faithfulness!
Many blessings x
