Daily we hear from the news and friends of increasing numbers of people experiencing mental health problems both in our communities and churches. Often support is difficult to find and statutory services have lengthy waiting times. As individual Christians and churches we are challenged to respond and help all find strategies to cope and healing to enjoy the ‘life in all it’s fullness’ which Jesus came to offer to everyone. However, we often feel ill equipped to respond in positive ways of supporting those who are seeking comfort, help and love.
On Saturday 17th November, 9:00am to 4:00pm, we have an opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and confidence to reach out and support those experiencing mental health difficulties both in our churches and communities by attending the Pastoral Ministry Conference which is to be held at The Durham Centre (Emmanuel Church Durham).
Speakers include friends from the If U Care Share Foundation; Eileen Brady; Christine Knowles; Joss Bray and a member of our own church with specialist knowledge and experience in supporting those experiencing a range of mental health issues.
Topics covered include: Suicide Prevention; supporting those who Self Harm, are experiencing Bereavement or supporting those will long term care needs, Domestic Abuse and Violence, Addiction; Mental Health Awareness; Healing from debilitating illness.
Who should attend: any member or the church or friends who seek positive strategies and an increased understanding of how to support those experiencing mental health difficulties in our communities and churches.
Lunch and all refreshments during the day will be provided (a donation of £5 would be welcome). However, no charge is being made to attend the conference in order to enable all who wish to attend to do so.
